Trend Alert: Décor Themes for Your NYE Wedding

2020 is just around the corner, which can only mean one things — it’s prime time to start planning for New Year’s Eve parties. New Year’s celebrations tend to be a bit different than other events for the sole fact that the party peak is at midnight, which is typically when other events are sending people home.

In addition to parties that run into the wee hours, New Year’s Eve celebrations are also known for over-the-top design to mark the major moment. With that said, let’s break out the numbered glasses and dig into some of the décor trends you can expect for this year’s slew of New Year’s parties.

Metallic madness

It has always been a popular choice to use metallics to celebrate the grandeur of the New Year, but this year, we’re seeing it in a whole new light.

Alysia Bridger of Celebrations by Alysia says: “We will see metallic elements remain interwoven in the designs; however, we will see a transition from gold and rose gold to copper, bronze, chrome, and silver. Couples will incorporate a mixture of these metallics instead of utilizing a single tone.”

Registration is NOW OPEN for Catersource 2020, co-located with The Special Event! Click here for more information or to register!

These metallic features won’t be kept to your typical champagne flutes and flatware, either. Expect to see new uses for these shiny details, like edible glitter, crystal ice cubes, and more.

Go big or go home

Nobody wants to go home early on New Year’s Eve, so you might as well go big. Think large ceiling installations, crazy lighting elements, and new takes on the traditional confetti release at midnight.

Michelle Anderson of Complete The Look shares: “We’re seeing large ceiling installations with personality and character, utilizing lighting, organic greenery, and unique materials, textures, and florals. Large statement balloon installations and singular balloons are also popular, as they represent renewal and a new beginning. Expect to see an increase in personalized decals.”

This is the time of year to pull out all the stops and try your wildest ideas. Get creative, have fun with it, and go crazy!

Light up the night

Nighttime events rely on lighting heavily for ambience and energy. The right type of lighting can transform a space, whereas poor lighting has the power to kill a mood.

Kevin Dennis of Fantasy Sound Event Services elaborates: “Neon signage will become more accessible and affordable and will give clients another avenue to customize their event. We expect more video mapping as well, which allows for custom graphics projected throughout an event space. Technology is really pushing the envelope when it comes to lighting design.”

With these newer trends in the picture, New Year’s parties (and their guests) will be fully prepared to get lit.

Over-the-top entertainment

There’s no better time for extravagance than New Year’s Eve, especially when it comes to entertainment. We’re seeing less DJs and playlists with a fresh surge of unique and one-of-a-kind entertainment options this year.

Juliana Rodriguez of Scarlett Entertainment explains: “Circus entertainment is a consistently popular entertainment request due to its flexibility and ability to fit a range of events. Stilt walkers are among the top trends of 2019 and are ideal for customizing their act to make it suitable for a certain event. Aerial dancers are also among popular entertainment for 2019. Sophisticated and delicate, aerial performers add a little extra magic to the celebration and make the perfect background for gorgeous photos.”

This year, be prepared to push the limits and try new things. As the whole industry shifts its focus from standard décor to experiential features, New Year’s Eve parties are the perfect opportunity to experiment with cool and innovative ideas for future events to come.
