Event Lighting Inspiration: Gobo Washes

Patterned gobo washes offer a simple solution to a complete transformation of an event space and, more and more, people are finding them to be the perfect way to add a little flavor to a celebration. They’re also extremely versatile and can be projected on ceilings, walls, and floors—all for an unbelievably magical effect.

Gobo washes can be a great way to incorporate some seasonal flair into an event. From autumnal trees to winter snowflakes, the choices are limitless when it comes to picking the most fitting pattern.

A simple floral design can dress up a dance floor, adding both romance and dynamism to a couple’s first dance—as well as for some stunning photographic opportunities!

Projecting gobo washes onto the walls can also add a glamorous feel to any luxury event. Paired with elegant chandeliers, washes can add a beautiful touch to any event space. It’s not about using them all over the room, however, if anything, simplicity is key when it comes to incorporating these fun patterns into a room. Too much could be overwhelming and distract from the rest of the wedding design.

If you’re feeling dramatic, consider going with a ceiling wash as it can be much bolder than if it were on the walls. Being it’s overhead and not the immediate focal point, it’ll certainly wow guests when they look up to the ceiling!

The key to a successful gobo wash is to keep it symmetrical within the event space and to always keep it in focus. A blurry pattern will throw off the whole look, so be diligent in keeping an eye out for sharp lines. That way, you can guarantee your clients will have some fabulous memories and photos that will last for a lifetime!
