Legend has it that if the betrothed couple folds 1,000 paper cranes and put them on display on their wedding day, they will be granted 1,000 years of happiness and prosperity. Considering that folding that many cranes takes time, understanding and patience, it's good practice for the marriage itself. Cranes are considered auspicious and symbolize longevity and good health. It is believed that cranes mate for life and both male and female work together to build their nest, making the birds a perfect symbol for a wedding.

In China, two butterflies dancing around each other is a symbol of love. It's also a popular symbol for young girls as they spread their wings and emerge into beauty and grace. In the Western world, butterflies signify joy and freedom along with transformation.

There are many different types of origami hearts, from basic to advanced. Some have pockets for notes, and some can be created with their own stands. Double origami hearts are particularly appropriate for weddings. Hang them from branches at outdoor weddings, or on centerpieces. You can even create a cascade of hearts as a focal point in the reception area.
