All Things Linens

When it comes to event design, linen choices have the power to transform a space from ordinary to truly breathtaking. As such an essential aspect of an event, it is important to do your homework to find the very best options available and to source them from a responsible linen company.

National companies vs. local companies

When it comes down to it, linens can be sourced from national companies or from local companies. They both come with their advantages and disadvantages, so you will need to do your research before settling on one or the other.

There are three major national linen companies and the biggest difference I have seen between them and our local options is variety. Most of our local companies have a variety of colors, but tend to only stock polyester blends, satin, or velvet linens. While these can be a good choice for large events, small luxury weddings call for something more unique, which is better found at a national level.

In addition, national linen companies offer more on-trend products, as local companies tend to stock their inventory based on the supply and demand of their largest clients. That means they generally have more corporate linens (whites and blacks) than their national counterparts.

With that said, the biggest advantage of working with a local company is that someone else will pick them up after the event ends and you do not have to take the time to return them. If you rent from a national company, you will be responsible for removing them from the tables, packing them up, and shipping them.

Selecting the right linens

In order to find the best fit for your clients’ event, you really have to get an understanding for their vision and personality. This goes beyond simply asking for their favorite colors. Get to know their favorite clothing designer, style of shoes, piece of jewelry, or anything else that will help you get an idea of who they really are and what interests them most.

Industry-wide, we are seeing metallic accents trending back to pair gorgeously with gemstone-colored linens. If your clients are the type to stick to trends, be sure to stay up-to-date with the latest styles in the wedding market so you will know exactly where you need to source your linens from the start.

Linens can seem pricy, but they really can make or break your event design. When your linens are fabulous, simplicity is the way to go with your table accents. On the other hand, simple linens pair well with statement décor! Whether they want classic white linens or bold prints, get to know your clients’ tastes and you can’t go wrong.
