Most on-line daters are looking for love, not a business partner. But Valerie McCartney and Joe McKinney from San Diego got both. Nine months after meeting online, the two launched Enticing Tables, a San Diego-based design company specializing in original metal décor for weddings and events.
Combining his 25-plus years of aerospace welding experience with her established career in marketing and franchise development at several Fortune 500 companies, the couple almost stumbled upon an untapped niche in the wedding and event planning industry.
While watching a show about high-end weddings, McCartney was surprised at the outdated white candelabras at the otherwise elegant and opulent events. "I remember seeing those same white candelabras at each of my sisters' weddings in the 1970's," says McCartney. Quickly sketching her rough idea for a more modern design on a napkin, she worked with McKinney to make a prototype. One week later, she took the piece to a local floral shop owner who immediately asked where to get more.
What started as a local rental resource for candelabras and floral stands has evolved into a national seller of metal centerpiece and ceremony stands, cupcake and cake stands, arches and chandeliers for event professionals around the world. Particularly recognized for their unique cupcake stands, their work has traveled as far as Australia and been featured in several national high-end wedding media products.
And of course, original metal décor was front and center at the couple's own wedding in October, 2012 - proof that not only can one find love online, but along with it, artisanal designs that embellish today's most enticing tables.
