In almost all forms of art and design, the “rule of thirds” applies to good composition. This is especially true of good photography, be it food event or other.
It’s very simple; take a square or a rectangle and divide it into thirds by drawing 2 lines vertically. Then divide it into thirds by drawing 2 lines horizontally.
Where the lines meet, which will be 4 different spots, is where your main subject is generally the most appealing to the eye.
Now imagine these spots while looking through the cameras view finder or screen, then try and place the main subject on one of these spots.
Having a camera with a manual focus mode helps you control the ‘rule of thirds’ and makes it much easier.
