Donna Ford, Executive Pastry Chef of Sweet Memories Bakery, began designing cakes as a small child when her mother accidentally left cake-decorating supplies from a class on the kitchen table. As she experimented, Donna discovered her passion and unique talent for cake artistry.

Donna has worked with world class event planners and chefs. She was honored to design events for celebrity entertainers and clientele. Her unique cake designs have been featured in a variety of prominent publications, television shows, films and commercials and some of her past clients include Bill and Hillary Clinton, Princess Diana, Hulk Hogan, Coach K, Shaquille O'Neil, Governor Mike Easley, event planners David Tutera and Preston.

In 1999 Sweet Memories Bakery was created and since then, Donna has become a very busy woman! This year, in addition to taking on the sweet needs of Catersource€™s biggest party of the year, Donna and her team have some significant projects in the works.

After outgrowing their current space, Sweet Memories Bakery is planning a move to a larger facility. This has to take place around their current client workload and the classes and seminars they teach to both professionals and to the public, the bakery offers classes in cakes, pastry and desserts, food, throwing parties and entertaining, and food safety in your home.

Donna herself also has three books in the works! With titles yet to be determined, they include a how to on cake decorating, creative desserts and appetizers for festive parties and event and decor expressions.

Donna also finds the time to volunteer with the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle's ( €œBackPack Buddies,€ a program that provides children from food-insecure homes with weekend meals during the school year.

She's also in the process of setting up a bakery and pastry internship-workshop program in her shop for the organization€™s culinary training program and is a member of the planning committee for the Triangle NACE Inter-Faith Food Shuttle€™s Gala fundraiser €œAn Alice Affair.€ Donna says she€™s designing a large cake of the Mad Hatters tea party and will utilize and implement some ideas and resources she learned at Catersource.

Success truly is sweet for Donna Ford and her future is likely to be as big as the gravity-defying cakes she creates. Get a taste of her creativity with these two recipes straight out of the Sweet Memories kitchen:
